Cincy - Day 2

Last night, after I posted the update, Lucas had a breakdown. With his elbow restraints ON, he managed to pull the probe out a little. Luckily, it wasn't enough to warrant any x-rays but he did cry and the nurse had to come in a re-tape the probe to his face. I'm so glad I didn't listen to his earlier nurse who believed he would be fine taking off the restraints. Overnight he did okay. Woke up a few times but nothing major. Mommy and Daddy didn't get much sleep. We woke every time he moved.

Around midnight, the nurse informed us that his allergy appointments had been re-arranged. The allergist he was to see, Dr. Albonia, was sick and in the hospital. We originally were to have the impedance probe removed, be discharged, have a dexascan, then see allergist and have patch testing. Whew sounds like a lot (and it is). Instead, at 7am a fellow doctor came to our room in place of going to the clinic. She asked us about what's been going on. Her nurse came in at 7:30am and began the scratch testing on his arms. He had 77 scratches done to figure out what NOT to place in the patch testing. Throughout the entire scratch testing, Lucas didn't flinch, cry, complain, etc... They couldn't get over how awesome he was doing for a 3 year old. So much so that they told him that they would have something special waiting for him when he came to the clinic for his patches. We kept him occupied by feeding him breakfast. He had positive reactions to egg whites and yolks, NOT to wheat, slight/barely but enough that she (fellow dr) called positives to oats and lobster. Also positive reaction to trees but NOT dust mites, cats and dogs as in his previous scratch testing.

After the allergy team left, the nurse came in to remove the impedance probe before discharge. He wasn't happy that she had to pull the tape off his face. Poor buddy still have a red mark on his cheek from it. But he was happy to have the probe out. And as soon as the probe was removed, my active, energetic, spunky little man came back. Before, he had been unusually calm and sedate and quiet. NOT ANYMORE!!! We were discharged and headed to the dexascan. This was probably the most easy procedure he's had.

After the dexascan, we headed to the allergy clinic. Lo and behold, they were waiting for him with his special gift, a hot wheels car and 2 different sticker sets. We met with Dr. Rothenberg (the head of the allergy dept) because he was stepping in for Dr. Albonia. Once the meeting was over, we headed into the small room with the lovely allergy nurse. She made Lucas feel at ease and she tickled him as she was placing the patches. When she was in our room that morning, she had drawn a funny face on his hand. After she applied the patches she drew a different funny face on his hand. He asked 20 million questions and even recited "The Pledge of Allegiance" to her. She was impressed.

Once the patches were placed, we headed back to the hotel to chill out. My mom came up to visit and took Lucas out to eat at Cracker Barrel. He loved it especially because he got some candy and a new toy. Mommy and Daddy got to enjoy some alone time hitting up the mall and grabbing a bite to eat before he and my mom headed back home. Daddy could only take a few days off from work.

Now it's the waiting game. The patches have to stay on for 48 hrs. We go on an education and lab tour tomorrow. We plan to head to the Museum Center afterwards. May or may not have much of an update tomorrow but only time will tell. Goodnight!
