Road Trip To Cincy For Scope #5

Lucas and I ventured up to Cincy for his 5th scope. Typically, we travel up the morning of the scope and travel back home afterwards. This go around we decided to travel up the day before and visit with some fellow EoS families. The Jones family welcomed us into their home and gave us a place to crash for the night. The Jones family has two boys who are 5 and 7. The Simmes family, who has a 3 year old boy came over as well. The Jones family cooked dinner for us and the boys played and played. It was refreshing to talk to fellow parents who understand our situation. The Simmes family left and Lucas and the two Jones boys got ready for bed.

The boys were so wound up that going to bed was quite a challenge. The older Jones boy had school the next morning. Lucas and the younger Jones boy I found on the couch at one point.

Finally, around 10pm all the boys settled down and passed out. Mrs. Jones was gracious enough to snap this photo of Lucas and the younger Jones boy.

Mrs. Jones and I stayed up a little while longer chatting and enjoying each others company. The next morning all the boys were raring to go. Lucas and I made our way to the hospital for check-in. Once we were in the room, he immediately asked the nurse for some toys. He knew exactly what he wanted.

We went through the normal question and answers. The ChildLife Specialist came in to help Lucas pick out his flavored air. He chose watermelon. She asked if he remembers the mask used to give him his watermelon air and he promptly showed her.

(I think he's done this a few times before)

He wasn't really keen on the photo ops but I managed to snap the next one without his knowledge.

While inhaling the watermelon air, he matter of factly said, "I'm ready to get this over." Once he was all done, I went back to greet him in recovery. He was pretty grumpy and very short on his answers but overall he was well. He wanted his gatorade and his IV out stat. He walked with the nurse to pick out his race car wheelchair. I needed one more pic.

(As you can see, he was -over- having his picture taken)

When I meet with Dr. Francoisi, he said Lucas' upper esophagus visually looked better but we'll have to wait for the biopsies. I will speak to him again on Tuesday when the results are in. This scope was bittersweet. It was our last scope with Dr. Francoisi. He is leaving Cincy next month to take a position in Orlando. He has helped so much since our first visit last July. We are glad and feel very fortunate to have been in his care and happy for his new adventure but sad that we only had him for a short time. He has done so much in the last 10 months than our local team did in a year and a half.
